Racers Tennis Drops First OVC Match To UTM

The Murray State women's tennis team dropped their first decision of the Ohio Valley Conference season in a 7-0 defeat to UT Martin in Martin, Tenn.
MSU fell to 8-8 overall and 3-1 in the OVC.
The Racers' doubles team of Carla Suga and Carolyn Huerth scored a win over UTM's Alice Laing and Anna Marie Herbold by an 8-6 score. But MSU lost the other two doubles matches and dropped the point to UTM.
In singles play, the Racers were in nearly every match, but couldn't nail down any wins.
Suga was the first match to finish as she dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to UTM's Ivon Simic, while Ashley Pierson dropped her match to Laing 6-0, 0-6, 6-2. The third singles match was a 7-5, 6-2 loss for MSU's Cassidy Cunitz to UTM's Jodie Tiley. Ashley Canty lost 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 to Anna Winkelmann and MSU's Jordana Klein lost her match to Johanie Vanzyl by a 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 score. Huerth lost 6-4, 6-7, 10-5 to UTM's Herbold.
The Racers look to bounce back with three straight home matches in OVC play. Wednesday, MSU hosts Eastern Illinois at 12:30 p.m., Thursday they meet Jacksonville State at noon and Saturday host Tennessee State at noon.
