Three Racers Earn All-OVC Tennis Honors - Canty Three-Time Selection

Murray State women's tennis team placed three on the All-Ohio Valley Conference Second Team when the selections for the 2012 team were announced Thursday evening at the OVC awards gathering at the Holliday Inn-Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.
Ashley Canty (Jr., Powder Springs, Ga.), Cassidy Cunitz (Sr., Waterford, Mich.) and Carla Suga (So., Toronto, Canada) were recognized in a vote by the league's head coaches.
“What a great honor for Cassidy, Ashley, and Carla to be recognized by the OVC for their performances throughout the year,” MSU Head Coach Kara Amundson said.
Canty, makes the All-OVC team for a third straight season after she was a solid performer
at the No. 2 singles slot for MSU and was 6-3.
“Ashley is one of the most feared competitors in the league and has gained respect throughout the conference since she came in as a freshman,” Amundson said. “I am excited for her to have continued her streak as an All-OVC selection.”
Cunitz played the No. 1 singles position for the Racers and went 5-4 in league matches. She teamed with Canty to go 6-3 in conference play.
“I cannot say enough about Cassidy and how she has developed and evolved as a veteran player throughout the year,” Amundson said. “I think she is playing some of the best tennis of her career right now.”
Suga went an impressive 8-1 in OVC matches playing from the No. 4 position. She teamed with Carolyn Huerth to go 4-4 in OVC doubles matches.
“I am really excited for Carla Suga not only for earning this award, but for her growth as a player and a person throughout this season,” Amundson said. “She is incredibly confident in her game right now and has been a tough player to beat.”
