Murray State softball clears the halfway point of the OVC schedule this weekend, traveling to Cookeville, Tenn., for three games against Tennessee State.

Tennessee Tech enters this weekend having won five of its last seven games, including taking two of three this past weekend against Southeast Missouri at home. The Golden Eagles were scheduled to play Eastern Kentucky twice this week, but the games were canceled due to persistent lightning. TTU currently sits in 6th place in the OVC, sporting an 8-7 conference mark. They are 14-19 on the season.

Brittney Spalding leads TTU with a .297 average on the season batting out of the third spot in the lineup. Chanelle Spalding leads the team with 29 hits while batting .296, and also leads the squad with 17 runs scored. Melody Christian and Kayla Floyd are a combined 23-26 in stolen base attempts on the season.

Holly Thomas is the staff ace for Tennessee Tech, compiling a 10-9 record on the season in 21 appearances and 19 starts. Sporting a 2.24 earned run average on the season, she has struck out 101 batters in 131.1 innings.

The Racers and Golden Eagles are 3-3 all-time, with MSU winning two-of-three games at Tennessee Tech in their lone visit to Cookeville two years ago.

The Racers split an OVC doubleheader Wednesday afternoon against SIU Edwardsville, dropping the opening game 2-1 on a late-inning two run home run before an offensive explosion led to an 11-0, five inning victory in game two.

Megan Glosser, Mo Ramsey and Casey Castile each scored three times in the win and Castile drove in three runs.

Shelby Kosmecki was saddled with the loss in the opener, allowing a pair of runs on five hits and two walks with one hit batter. She struck out a pair in the outing.

Chelsey Sullivan earned the win in the nightcap, shuting out the Cougars in five innings while giving up just three hits and a walk in earning her fifth win of the season.
