In what was nearly a mirror image of the first game against Tennessee Tech, Chelsey Sullivan came out and tossed the second shutout of the day against the Golden Eagles as the Racers picked up their second straight 1-0 victory Friday afternoon.
Sullivan improved to 6-4 on the season, allowing just five hits while walking none and striking out six on the day.
The Racers (15-12, 10-6 OVC) caught Tennessee Tech sleeping for the first run of the game in the top of the third. Ellyn Troup reached on a hit by pitch with one out, and later moved over to second on a two out single to the pitcher by Megan Glosser. Mo Ramsey singled into center field to load the bases with the throw back to the infield coming a third of the way up the third base line to the TTU catcher. With theGolden Eagles catcher searching for her mask after the play, Troup broke for an open home plate, sliding into Mekenzie Weems and jarring the ball loose from her glove to be called safe.
Tennessee Tech (14-21, 8-9 OVC) pressured the Racers in the bottom of the sixth, getting runners on first and second with one out. Sullivan would get out of the jam, getting a fly out to Ramsey in right and a groundout to Becker at short to exit the inning unscathed.
Sullivan had to battle again in the seventh as the Golden Eagles once again had a pair of runners reach base. She would close the game on a groundout to Christian Cox at second to seal the second 1-0 win of the game.
Ramsey and Troup each led the Racers with a pair of hits as both teams collected five hits on the day.
The pair of shutouts on the day extend the Racers streak to 20 consecutive innings without giving up a run, including shutouts in each of the last three games.
The Racers will look to finish the series sweep Saturday afternoon as the teams complete the three game set at the Tech Softball Field at 1 p.m.
