Racers Take Down TSU - Salute Seniors Cunitz And Pierson

The Murray State women's tennis team honored a pair of seniors and scored a 7-0 win over Tennessee State Saturday at the Bennie Purcell Courts in Murray, Ky.
The Racers improved to 10-8 overall and 5-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Seniors Cassidy Cunitz (Waterford, Mich.) and Ashley Pierson (Acworth, Ga.) were surrounded by teammates, family and friends for a pre-match ceremony recognizing their contributions to the MSU Tennis program since they arrived as freshmen.
When the match started the Racers took care of business and won all three doubles matches with wins by the teams of Cunitz/Ashley Canty, Carla Suga/Carolyn Huerth and Pierson/Jordana Klein winning 8-5, 8-0, 8-0.
In singles play, the Racers made it clean sweep.
Cunitz defeated TSU's Melynda Simmons 6-2, 6-2, while Canty dispatched London Thomas 6-0, 6-0. The remaining singles matches all ended in 6-0, 6-0 wins for MSU. Klein defeated Lauren Thomas, Suga defeated Kryston Mason, Huerth defeated Shardel Suber and Pierson defeated Khadijah Williams.
After dropping a 7-0 road match at UT Martin (March 31), the Racers have rebounded in fine form in beating Jacksonville State and TSU this week by 7-0 scores. The Racers have three league matches before the OVC Tournament begins (April 20) in Nashville, Tenn. MSU hosts EIU Tuesday before finishing on the road at Eastern Kentucky (April 13) and Morehead State (April 14).
