Breds Season Ends With 7-1 Defeat

The 2012 season came to an end Saturday afternoon as Murray State dropped a 7-1 decision to Eastern Kentucky at Reagan Field.
The Colonels (31-21, 19-7 OVC) got on the board in the fifth inning as Matt Phipps started a one-out rally with a bloop single into shallow right field that was lost in the sun. After a Richie Rodriguez single put runners on the corners, Jacob Daniel delivered an RBI single up the middle. A.J. Jamison followed with a chopper up the middle that was misplayed, allowing the second run to score.
The Breds (23-33, 8-19 OVC) got on the board in the sixth with a two-out rally started by a Ty Stetson hustle double to right center. Travis Isaak followed with an RBI single through the left side.
EKU broke the game open in the eighth as a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Alex Hughes was hit by a pitch to score a run, before Sean Hagen plated two runs with a single through the right side. Phipps plated the fourth run with a sacrifice bunt.
The Colonels pushed across their seventh run in the ninth as Austin Grisham singled up the middle and stole second. Jamison followed with an RBI single to center field.
Mark Roberts (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and four strikeouts over five innings. Shane Grimm (6-4) earned the victory after allowing one run on four hits over eight innings.
