Racers Open OVC Play at Eastern Illinois

STORY LINES
Murray State remains on the road as they open Ohio Valley Conference action at Eastern Illinois. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and can be seen live on the Racer TV Network.
Junior running back Jaamal Berry made his Racer debut against Missouri State, catching the game-winning touchdown. He finished the game with 41 yards rushing and 44 yards receiving. For his efforts, he was named the OVC Newcomer of the Week.
Brandon Wicks was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week after clinching the victory with an interception late in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Casey Brockman became the school's all-time leader in career completions against Missouri State. He also became the third player to attempt 1,000 career passes and surpass 7,000 yards passing.
The game will feature two of the top offensive teams in the OVC. Eastern Illinois is averaging a league-best 458.3 yards and 40.3 points per game, while the Racers are averaging 364.0 yards of offense per game. On the contrary, the Racers are giving up 490 yards of offense and the Panthers 515 yards per game.

The Racers hit the road for the second time this season as they open OVC play at Eastern Illinois. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. The game can be seen live on the Racer TV Network.
vs. Eastern Illinois
The Racers trail 14-13 in the all-time series, but have won each of the previous two meetings. In the last visit to Charletson, the Racers jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 38-28 victory.
OVC Openers
The Racers are 27-37 in OVC openers. MSU had lost six-straight OVC openers before defeating Tennessee State, 58-27, a season ago.
Opening OVC Play on Road
For the first time since 2007, Murray State will open the Ohio Valley Conference season on the road. In that season, the Racers faced off with Tennessee Tech on a Thursday evening.
Playing EIU in September
Saturday's game will mark the earliest the Racers and Panthers will face each other in a season since the two teams opened the 1994 season in Charleston, Ill. This will be the earliest the two teams ever meet as members of the OVC.
Hatcher vs EIU
Head Coach Chris Hatcher is 2-0 against Eastern Illinois. In his first season, the Racers went on the road for a 38-28 victory. Last season, MSU rallied for a 36-27 victory at Stewart Stadium.
Gameday Weather
The early forecast is calling for temperatures in the middle 60s with a 20% chance of rain.
Points vs. Florida State
Entering the fourth week of the season, the Racers hold the distinction of being the only team to put points on the board against Florida State. Since the Racers scored the Seminoles, FSU has shutout Savannah State and Wake Forest.
Wicks Comes Up Big
Junior Brandon Wicks came up big for the Racers against Missouri State as he ended any hopes of a Bear comeback with an interception in the game's final minute. He finished the game with 10 tackles, and his third career interception.
Berry Impressive Debut
Jaamal Berry made his much anticipated debut against Missouri State and did not disappoint. The junior got 12 touches in the game, rushing eight times for 41 yards, and five catches for 44 yards and a touchdown. His 15-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winning touchdown.
Powell Has Career Day
Junior wide receiver Walter Powell had a career day against Missouri State as he caught 12 passes for 90 yards. It bested his previous high of nine receptions set against Florida State this season and Tennessee State a season ago.
It's a Fake
With Murray State leading 28-23 with just over six minutes remaining against Missouri State, the Racers rolled the dice ran a fake punt on 4th-and-6 from their own 15-yard line. The result was a nine-yard run and a first down from Duane Brady.
Williams Gets Birthday INT
Senior Jarius Williams celebrated his birthday on Sept. 15 by recording his first career interception, and returning it 33 yards.
Manning Blocks PAT
Cornerback Josh Manning blocked an extra point twice against Missouri State. He came off the right side of the defense to block the kick on the Bears final touchdown, but was called offsides. So he switched sides and came in to block the kick again.
Berry and Wicks Earn OVC Honors
Juniors Jaamal Berry and Brandon Wicks were honored by the OVC after their play against Missouri State. Berry was named the Newcomer of the Week, while Wicks was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week.
Wicks Earns CFPA Honor
Brandon Wicks earned his second honor of the week as he was named to the College Football Performance Awards Honor Roll after sealing the victory over Missouri State with an interception in the final minute.
Brockman Completes 41 Again
For the second-straight week, quarterback Casey Brockman completed 41 passes in a game. It is the fourth time in his career he has completed at least 41 passes in a game. His 63 attempts against Central Arkansas were the second most of his career. He set career highs against Tennessee State in 2011 after going 45-for-67.
Quest For 100
The Murray State offense is closing in on running 100 plays in a game. The Racers tied the school record by running 99 plays against Missouri State, after running 97 plays against Central Arkansas. They tied the record of 99 set against Tennessee State in 2011.
