Despite coming back from a 2-0 match deficit and leading for the majority of the fourth set, the Murray State volleyball team suffered a tough OVC loss on Tuesday night at the hands of Austin Peay, 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, at Racer Arena.

The opening set remained even until the middle of the frame, when the Governors (8-10, 2-1) pushed to 18 with a 5-0 run that placed Murray State (3-9, 1-2) in a hole from which they were never able to climb out of.

Austin Peay used an 8-0 run at almost the same point in the second set to propel it to another set win and 2-0 match lead.

With their backs against the wall, the Racers dug down deep to stave off elimination with a 25-19 set win. Murray State closed out the set on an 8-3 run of its own that was powered by three kills each from junior Michelle Lazorchak (Marion, Ill.) and freshman Taylor Olden (Lincoln, Ill.).

In the fourth set, the scoring went back and forth, but Murray State was the first to 20 and looked poised to push the match to a decisive fifth set. However, with a 22-21 lead, MSU allowed the Governors to score four of the next five points and claim the set and match win.

Olden led three Racers in double-digit kills on the evening with 15, while Lazorchak and freshman Alyssa Lelm (Mackinaw, Ill.) notched 12 each. The 12 kills for Lelm was a new career high.

Senior Lydia Orf (St. Louis, Mo.) led the Murray State defense with a match-high 16 digs, while junior Katlyn Hudson (Columbus, Ind.) followed closely behind with 12. Senior Lia Havili (Haltom City, Texas) also had a big night for the Racers, posting a match-high 54 assists, just five off her career-high.

Senior Nikki Doyle (Santa Maria, Calif.) led Austin Peay with a match-high 17 kills, while sophomore Jada Stotts (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) posted the night's lone double-double of 15 kills and 11 digs.

On Saturday, the Racers will travel to rival Morehead State for a 1 p.m. CDT, OVC showdown.
