Racers Return to The Track to Face Tennessee Tech

STORY LINES
Murray State returns to the friendly confines of The Track for the second time this season as they host Tennessee Tech at 6 p.m. It is the OVC home opener for the Racers.
The Racers have played some close games in OVC action. Dating back to last season, four of the last five OVC games have been decided by one point. The Racers are 2-2 in those games, including a 38-37 victory at Tennessee Tech last season.
The Racer offense set a new school and OVC record by running 110 plays against Eastern Illinois. It marked the first time MSU has reached 100 plays, after running 99 and 97 in the previous two games.
Sophmore Jordan Benton tied a school record with five field goals against Eastern Illinois. He connected from 39, 30, 35, 36 and 21 yards. He became the fourth Racer to make five field goals in a game. For his efforts, he was named the CFPA National Placekicker of the Week, as well as the adidas OVC Co-Specialist of the Week.
The Game
The Racers return to the friendly confines of Stewart Stadium as they play host to Tennessee Tech on Sept. 29. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
Coach To Cure MD
For the third-straight year, head coach Chris Hatcher and his staff will be participating in Coach to Cure MD, the national gameday charity project of the American Football Coaches Association. The coaches will be wearing shoulder patches on the sidelines to help raise awareness of the program. For more information, please go to www.CoachtoCureMD.org.
vs. Tennessee Tech
The Racers and Golden Eagles are meeting for the 78th time on the gridiron. TTU holds a 41-35-1 advantage in the all-time series, but the Racers have come away victorious in three of the last four meetings.
Last Year vs. TTU
The two teams played a classic matchup last season that came down to the final seconds. With the Racers leading by seven, the Golden Eagles drove down the field and scored with 2:05 remaining. But, the extra point hit the right upright and was no good. MSU recovered the onside kick and was able to run out the clock.
Racers Set OVC Mark for Plays
The high-powered Hatch Attack offense set a new Ohio Valley Conference record by running 110 plays against Eastern Illinois. It breaks the old record of 106 plays set by Eastern Illinois just one week ago.
Racers-EIU Combine for FCS Record
Murray State and Eastern Illinois combined to run an FCS-record 210 plays. The Racers set a school record by running 110 plays, while the Panther reached the century mark.
One-Point Games
The game against Eastern Illinois marked the fourth time in the last five OVC games that the outcome was decided by one point. The Racers are 2-2 in those games. The Racers ended last season with a one-point loss to Eastern Kentucky, and one-point wins against Tennessee Tech and Southeast Missouri.
Benton Goes 5-for-5
Sophomore Jordan Benton tied a school record against Eastern Illinois by going 5-for-5 on field goals. He connected from 39, 30, 35, 36 and 21 yards. He tied the record viously set bythat was pre Greg Duncan (1988), Rob Hart (1996) and Kienan Cullen (2011).
Benton Earns Pair of Honors
After going 5-for-5 on field goals against Eastern Illinois, kicker Jordan Benton was named the College Football Performance Awards National Placekicker of the Week, as well as adidas OVC Co-Specialist of the Week.
Racers Go Overtime
Saturday's overtime game against Eastern Illinois marked the first time the Racers have played an overtime game since 2006. The loss dropped the Racers to 2-2 all-time in overtime games.
Powell Grabs 13
Junior Walter Powell continues his strong season as he had a career-best 13 catches for 142 yards against Eastern Illinois. He broke his previous career high of 12 catches set just one week prior against Missouri State. It was his second career 100-yard receiving game.
Fumbles on Kickoffs
The Racers kickoff team forced and recovered a fumble for the second-straight game. Both fumbles were recovered by freshman Brandon Hathaway.
Robinson Gets Fumble vs EIU
Senior Kevin Robinson forced and recovered a fumble against Eastern Illinois. It marked the second-straight season he has done that, after securing the victory in 2011 with a sack, fumble and recovery.
Berry Finds Endzone Twice
Running back Jaamal Berry rushed for a pair of touchdowns against EIU. The junior scored on runs of two and one yards. He caught a TD pass in his first game against Missouri State.
Brockman 3-Straight Over 300
Quarterback Casey Brockman has thrown for at least 300 yards in each of the last three games. This marks the first time in his career that he has gone over 300-yard mark in three consecutive games.
