Tanui Leads Strong Racer Performance at Notre Dame

Carolyne Tanui ran a career-best 5K time of 17:59 to finish 10th and led the Murray State women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish out of 15 teams on Friday afternoon at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
Abigail Ashbee-Simmonds wasn't far behind her teammate as she also ran a PR in the race, running a time of 18:05 and finishing in 14th. Abbie Oliver placed 44th with a time of 18:38, also a PR for her. Rebecca Hbetamu finished in 48th place and ran a time of 18:45.
Brittany Bohn (19:05), Leah Krause (19:29), Anna Grimes (19:53), Jaquelyn Thate (20:18) and Bridget Stitchnot (20:44) also ran great times for the Racers. The times by Bohn, Grimes and Thate were all personal best times.
Lucas Prather once again paced the MSU men. Prather ran a PR time of 26:51 and finished 93rd. The Racer men finished 17th overall as a team.
Jarred Koerner also ran a personal best with a time of 27:16 and placed 104th. Jordan Althoff ran 28:47, while James Chute ran a time of 30:01 in the race. Chase Darnell (31:07) and Will Elledge (31:24) rounded-out the Racer times.
Next up for Murray State will be a couple of different meets. On Oct. 13, the Racers will travel to two different sites as some will participate at the Pre-NCAA Nationals in Louisville, Ky., while the rest of the team will head to Owensboro, Ky., for the Fast Cats Invitational. These will be the final tune-ups for the Racers before heading to the OVC Championships on Oct. 27.
