MSU records 70-49 Home Win Over Eastern Illinois

The Murray State Racers used a burst of six straight three-point baskets to pull away from visiting Eastern Illinois 70-49 at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
The Racers (13-4) pushed their record in the west division of the Ohio Valley Conference to 4-1.
With the game tied 31-31 with 17:30 left in the game, the Racers got back-to-back threes from Dexter Fields for a 37-31 lead. While MSU was locking down the Panthers defensively, Isaiah Canaan sandwiched a pair of threes around another from Fields for a 10-point lead with 13:16 left. Jeffery Moss capped the Racer explosion with a three and MSU had an 18-2 run to lead 49-33 with 12:03 remaining.
MSU stretched the lead to 65-45 with 3:16 left after Canaan hit two more threes.
For the game, MSU hit 11-of-25 from long range and were 9-of-12 in the second half. While the Panthers (3-16, 0-6) were 4-of-16 for the night.
Canaan led the way for MSU with 17 points on 5-of-10 from three-point range, while Fields added 12 on 4-of-9 threes. Ed Daniel was one rebound away from a double-double and scored 10 points.
The first half saw MSU jump out to a 12-4 lead and a late 6-0 run gave them a 27-24 lead at the half.
Game Notes
The Racers were 11-of-25 from three-point range tonight which tied their season high. MSU also had 11 threes against Old Dominion (Nov. 24) and Lipscomb (Nov. 26). Canaan and Fields were a combined 9-of-19 from long range.
Canaan's 17 points moved him closer to becoming the sixth member of the MSU 2000-Point Club and the 17th in the OVC. Canaan has 1,741 points. He is just behind MSU's Frank Allen (1989-93) who is in eighth place on the MSU list with 1,811.
Canaan extended his school record streak of consecutive games with a made three-point basket to 27.
Canaan and Daniel has started 51 straight games together.
Daniel was one rebound from a double-double. He is now 20 (590) from 600 career rebounds which is 16th on the MSU list behind Tony Easley (2005-10) who had 610.
Latreze Mushatt received a nice ovation from the Racer fans when he entered the game at the 9:00 mark of the first half. It was the first time he had appeared at home this season since his Achilles injury last summer. Mushatt also scored his first basket of the season.
The Racers host SIUE Saturday marking the Cougars first trip to MSU since 2010. Game one of the women's/men's double header begins at 5 p.m., with the second game starting at 7:30 p.m.
