STORY LINES
The Racers play their 2013 Ohio Valley Conference home opener as they welcome Tennessee Tech to The Track for a 3 p.m. kickoff. Â
The game marks the second time in as many years that the two teams will meet in Murray. Last season, the Racers handed the Golden Eagles a 70-35 defeat.
MSU head coach Chris Hatcher is 3-0 against the Golden Eagles. The Racers defeated TTU 44-13 at The Track in 2010, 38-37 in Cookeville in 2011 and 70-35 last season in Murray.
The Racers are coming off a thrilling 35-34 overtime victory over Jacksonville State. The victory put an end to a nine-game losing streak in the series, and was the first overtime victory since the 2004 season.
The MSU defense forced four turnovers in the victory. Brandon Wicks forced a fumble at the end of the first half, while John Therrell, Qua Huzzie and Josh Manning each recorded second-half interceptions.
The Racers are looking for their first 2-0 start in conference play since 1998.

Last Year vs. TTU
Murray State scored 28 points in the first quarter as they raced to a 70-35 victory in the OVC home opener. Duane Brady rushed for three touchdowns, while Walter Powell caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a score.
Miller Earns Newcomer Honor
Sophomore Maikhail Miller earned his second OVC Newcomer of the Week honor after rallying the Racers a 35-34 overtime victory over Jacksonville State. Miller rushed for 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also throwing for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Overtime in OVC Opener
For the second-straight year, MSU found themselves in overtime in the OVC opener. This one turned out better as the Racers converted the two-point conversion in the victory over Jacksonville State. Last season, Eastern Illinois converted a two-point conversion for the victory. Both JSU and EIU were coming off overtime games the week before playing the Racers.
Racers Overtime Win
The Racers overtime victory over Jacksonville State was the first since defeating Eastern Kentucky in 2004. MSU had lost its previous two OT games (Tennessee Tech, 2006 and Eastern Illinois, 2012).
Victory Over Jacksonville State
The victory over JSU put an end to a nine-game losing streak to the Gamecocks. The Racers only other victory came in the first meeting in 2003, also in overtime. It was also the last time JSU had been defeated in OT.
Hatch Attack Ground
Known for its aerial assault, the Racer offense took to the ground against Jacksonville State as they rushed for 296 yards and three touchdowns on 58 carries. It was the most rushing yards in an OVC contest since rushing for 300 yards against Tennessee Tech in 2010.
Miller Just Misses QB Rushing Record
Sophomore quarterback Maikhail Miller just missed the school record for rushing yards by a quarterback with his 134-yard effort against Jacksonville State. He fell just one yard shy of Charlie Forrest's record of 135 yards set against Middle Tennessee State on Nov. 7, 1964.
Fourth Down Success
The Racers enjoyed success on fourth down against JSU as they were a perfect 3-for-3, including converting both fourth downs in overtime. On the season, MSU is 9-for-10 on fourth down.
Second Half Turnovers
The Racers defense forced three turnovers in the second half against JSU. MSU got interceptions from John Therrell, Qua Huzzie and Josh Manning.
Wicks' TD Saver
Brandon Wicks made the play of the game when he forced a fumble late in the first half as a JSU receiver was going in for a touchdown. The fumble rolled into the endzone, where Anthony Hayes recovered, keeping the halftime advantage at 20-10.
Turnovers to Start Season
The Racer defense has forced at least one turnover in all five games this season. This marks the sixth time since 2000 the Racers have had at least one turnover in each of the first four games. The 2003 team forced a turnover in all 12 games, while the 2002 team forced a turnover in the first 11 games. MSU forced a turnover in the first five games last season.
