Tournament Draws
Murray State women's tennis closes out its fall season at the Arkansas State Invitational. The Racers have representatives in the final round of four of the five singles flights and all three of their doubles teams advanced as well.
Both Carla Suga and Andrea Eskauriatza played in the first singles flight. Eskauriatza defeated Valeriia Nagovitcina of SEMO (6-1, 6-1) in the quarterfinals and Simona Horsikyan of Central Arkansas (6-3, 6-0) to claim her spot in the finals. Suga lost in her first round match up with Tamara Slijepcevis of ASU (7-6, 6-3). Eskauriatza will face Slijepcevis tomorrow in the finals while Suga will face Janie Nowland of ASU in the consolation finals.
Eleonore Tchakarova made her way to the finals of flight number two defeating Lara Eeckendout of Belmont (6-2, 6-4) and Kelsey Williams of UCA (6-3, 6-3). Tchakarova will square off against Heather Robinson of SEMO in the finals.
Also in the final round is Megan Blue in flight number three. She defeated Polina Dozortseva of SIU-Carbondale (6-0, 7-5) and Cassidy Crawford of UCA (6-0, 6-1) along her path to the final round. She'll play against Julie Gauguery of ASU in the finals.
Eleonore's sister Verginie Tchakarova also earned a spot in the finals of flight number four. She took down Lauren Hoekstra of SIU (6-3, 6-1) and came-from-behind in the semifinals to defeat Jess Heeps of ASU (5-7, 6-1, 6-1). Tchakarova will face Krizia Buck of UCA tomorrow.
Playing at first doubles, the Tchakarova sisters took down Kashina and Donetskova of SEMO 8-1 in round one of the round robin doubles tournament. Eskauriatza and Patton also won their opening round match against Horsikyan and Crawford of UCA.
Suga and Blue earned a bye into the semi-final round in the fourth doubles. The traditional draw will see them facing the tandem of Stefanov and Krsmanovic of ASU. Suzaan Stoltz is also competing in the fourth doubles draw. She teamed up with Baza of SIU as they defeated Buck and Strueklj of UCA 8-7 to advance to the semifinal round.
The ASU Invitational continues tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
