Freshman Katarina Bisercic tied for first place in the air rifle competition Nov. 23-24 at the Gamecock Invitational. Bisercic shot a personal best 593, the highest by a Racer this season in the discipline. The Racers finished in fourth place in the eight-team invitational, scoring 4625 points, just a point behind third place Memphis. Jacksonville State won the invitational scoring 4678 with TCU behind them at 4638. Â
Bisercic was the only Racer to capture a place in the top five in either the air rifle or the smallbore with her score of 593. She was also the highest scoring Racer, totaling 1159 on both guns.
Junior Kelsey Emme and sophomore Tessa Howald both snuck into the top ten in the smallbore and air rifle respectively. Emme tied for eighth place with a score of 576 and Howald fired a 587 air rifle to tie for ninth place. Emme rounded out her score with a 581 air rifle to land in 21st place.
Freshmen Sam Harris and Jack Berhorst had strong outings. Harris shot a season second-best air rifle (580) and Berhorst combined to shoot 1144 (570 SB, 574 AR).
Senior Bill Harvey placed himself in the top-15 in the smallbore. Harvey's 575 was good for 14th place.
Following the match Coach Alan Lollar said, "We helped ourselves going into the break. Katy (Bisercic) had a really good air rifle match. Tessa (Howald) did a good job as well with a 587. I think we're all looking forward to the break. We're going to come back fresh and ready to make a good run in the spring."
The Gamecock Invitational will be the Racers final match in 2013. Murray State will be back in action after the calendar turns to 2014. They will host their third and final tri-match of the season Jan. 11 against North Carolina State and Columbus State. The match will be held in the Spurgin Rifle Range.Â
