Racers Sign Three for 2014

Head Coach David Schwepker is pleased to announce the signing of three exceptionally talented student-athletes to the Murray State volleyball team. Olivia Chatman (Richmond, Texas), Dacia Williams (Memphis, Tenn.) and Kaitlyn Embrey (Arlington, Texas) will all join the Racers in the fall of 2014.
"Wow, what a fantastic recruiting class for the fall of 2014!" exclaimed Schwepker. "This year I have once again brought in some fantastic athletic volleyball talent!! I can't be more pleased. I have been working hard to fill in the gaps for our young team and I believe I have done just that."Â
Olivia Chatman is a 5'10 middle blocker from Richmond, Texas. She has played four years at William B. Travis High School. Chatman is a two-time First Team All-District athlete and varsity team captain. As a senior, Chatman landed 237 kills and 36 solo blocks in 92 sets.
Schwepker on Chatman: "Olivia is an outstanding athlete from Houston, TX. She has been a starter on her high school varsity team since her freshman year and plays on the top 18's team for the very well established and elite "Houston Jr's Volleyball Club".  I was really looking for someone with a lot of experience that will have the ability to start for us as a freshman and Olivia fits the bill. Olivia is extremely powerful and has a very strong work ethic!! She is an awesome young lady that will represent our school both academically and certainly athletically."
Dacia Williams is another middle blocker coach Schwepker has brought into the fold. The Memphis, Tenn. native played two years at St. Benedict at Auburndale for Coach Angie Buchanan. The 5'11 blocker was the top blocker and hitter for the Eagles and was named to the All-Region team. She was also named to the Commercial Appeal Best of Preps Team in 2013, leading the Eagles to the Final Four.
Schwepker on Williams: "Dacia is a fantastic middle, a little closer to Murray State, hailing from Memphis, TN. I found her a little late and am glad that I did. She plays for Memphis Jr's on their top team. I had not had a chance to see their team play last spring and it turns out a lot of other coaches did. However, she was holding out to stay a little closer to home, so when she contacted me with her recruiting video, I immediately went to watch her play in person and the rest is history!! She is an outstanding athlete and a very fluid player, she also has the ability to step in and have a starting role beginning next fall. She too, will be great in the classroom and definitely on the court. I am so excited to add these two middles to our program. I can't wait to start coaching them next fall!!"
Kaitlyn Embrey is a 5'8 outside hitter/defensive specialist from Arlington, Texas. She played her junior and senior seasons at Fort Worth Christian High School, helping her team compile a 70-13 record in two years. Embrey is a two-time First Team All-District and Second Team All-State honoree. As a captain her senior year, Embrey recorded 403 kills to go along with 245 digs. Her two year totals for the Cardinals include 730 kills and 510 digs.
Schwepker on Embrey: Our last recruit rounding out this year's class is Kaitlyn Embrey. Kaitlyn is an outstanding volleyball player from the great state of Texas. Kaitlyn is already a complete player. She is awesome and exciting in the front row and is equally as good in the back row! She is a little undersized, but as most people know, I am not worried about that if you can play this sport, and she can play this sport!! I really love what she will bring to this program. Kaitlyn is awesome in the classroom and will be equally effective on the volleyball court.
