Head coach David Schwepker is pleased to announce that Miranda Fowler and Kamille Jones have chosen Murray State University as they place at which they will continue their respective academic and volleyball careers in the fall of 2013.
Fowler, a 5-11 middle blocker from Cape Girardeau, Mo., will come to Murray State from Notre Dame Regional High School, the same high as school as former Racer and 2010 graduate Ashley Nenninger. In addition to being a four-year letter-winner in volleyball for the Bulldogs, she was also a four-year letter-winner in both basketball and soccer.
She is coming off an outstanding senior year in which she earned first-team, all-conference, all-district, all-region and all-state honors. She finished her senior year with 505 kills, 117 blocks, 108 digs and 36 aces. In addition to her other honors, Fowler was just one of three student-athletes chosen to play in both the volleyball and girls' basketball portions of BA Sports All-Star Extravaganza, one of Missouri's largest high school all-star games.
Schwepker on Fowler: “When Miranda is not playing varsity volleyball she will be found playing varsity basketball and when that season is over she will be on the varsity soccer team. She has been an outstanding athlete in all three sports and has never stopped to solely concentrate on just one sport, until now. I think in the sport of volleyball she will be behind in experience and skill level, but from what I have learned about her drive and dedication, I believe she will be able to catch up to her fellow teammates. I am excited to be able to add another athlete from the Southeast Missouri area. She also is a serious student and will thrive in this college atmosphere.”
Jones is a 5-6 outside hitter from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas. She is a four-year letter-winner in volleyball, in addition to being a three-year letter-winner in track and a black belt in taekwondo.
She is a two-time all-district honoree, honorable mention in 2011 and first team in 2012, as well as a two-time academic all-district selection. She averaged 236 kills per year over three varsity seasons with the Panthers, including a career-high 315 during her junior year. During a match this past season, Jones notched a career-high 25 kills on 37 attempts with only one error, three blocks and 12 digs.
Schwepker on Jones: “Kamille is going to be an excellent addition to our already talented group of recruits coming in this fall. She is a great player and a dynamic athlete and also excels in the classroom. Kamille is just an outstanding athlete. Being only 5-6, most people think she is a libero, however, after you see how high she jumps and how hard she hits, you quickly forget her size and realize what kind of offensive player she really is. People that know me know I love this kind of athlete and she will fit into our system extremely well. I am so excited she has decided to join our program and school and think she will have a great career here at Murray State.”
