The Murray State women's soccer team fell for the first time in the 2013 season, 2-0, Friday at South Alabama. The loss put an end to a four-game unbeaten streak by the Racers to start the season.
The Jaguars struck first in the third minute when Nini Rabsatt-Smith sent a long through ball down the left side to find Jordan Duncan. Duncan then fired a shot from 15 yards out that sailed over the head of MSU goalkeeper Savannah Haberman to give the Jaguars a 1-0 lead.
South Alabama (6-1-1) added an insurance goal later in the half when Lauren Allison scored her team-high ninth goal of the season in the 34th minute to make it 2-0. Alyssa Mayer set up the goal with a ball from 18 yards out, Duncan then pulled down the pass and beat Haberman one-on-one on the left side to cap the scoring at two.
The Racers (3-1-1) were able to keep USA at bay for the entire second half, however they were unable to add any offense of their own and fell 2-0. Murray State had five total shots in the game with three on goal, compared to 21 overall by the Jaguars and nine on goal.
Julie Mooney led the Racers in the match with three shots, while Shauna Wicker and Lauren Frazier had each had one. Despite taking her first loss of the season, Haberman ended the game with two saves, to go along with five team saves.
On Sunday, the Racers will close out their two-match road swing in Alabama when they face off against Troy. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
