After being crowned tournament champions for the second consecutive weekend, Racer volleyball student-athletes Scottie Ingram and Sam Bedard each earned weekly OVC honors. Ingram received co-Offensive Player of the Week while Bedard was named Setter of the Week.
Ingram and Bedard helped the Racers compile a 3-1 record on the week. Â MSU's 7-3 record is the team's best start through 10 games since 2006.
Ingram landed 58 kills in 16 sets, including a career-high 19 against Robert Morris Saturday. She finished the week with three double-doubles and a .303 attack percentage. Ingram also contributed seven assists and seven total blocks. She capped her week by being named MVP of the Wright State Invitational.
Ingram becomes the first Racer to win OVC Offensive Player of the week since Logan Su in 2009.
Bedard had a stellar week for the Racers as well dishing out 146 assists in the four matches. In Saturday's win over Robert Morris, Bedard totaled a career-best 53 assists. She also made a number of plays offensively, finishing with 20 kills and a .340 attack percentage. Against Indiana State, Bedard fell a dig shy of a triple-double with 10 kills, 35 assists and nine digs.
The last Racer to be named OVC Setter of the Week was Jade Guo in 2010.
Ingram, Bedard and the rest of the Racers are back in action Tuesday, Sept. 17 as they travel to Southern Illinois to battle the Saluki's. Following that match, they'll travel to North Carolina for the High Point Invitational Friday and Saturday. MSU will face Davidson (6:30 pm) Friday night followed by High Point (12 pm) and North Carolina A&T (4 pm) Saturday afternoon. Â Â
