Tournament Draws
Racer women's tennis will get underway at the Austin Peay Open in Clarksville, Tenn. this weekend. It will be the first of three tournaments the Racers play this fall. The action will kick off tomorrow with the opening two rounds of singles and doubles competition followed by the next two rounds Saturday.
In addition to Austin Peay, fellow OVC opponents will be at the Open including Southeast Missouri and UT Martin and nonconference rival, Western Kentucky.
Coach Olga Elkin is bringing all seven student-athletes to the Open and is looking forward to the challenge. "We've been training hard these past few weeks so it will be exciting to see the girls play in their first tournament. I think everyone is looking forward to playing against opponents other than their teammates."
Two Racers will be competing in Flight "A" this weekend, Andrea Eskauriatza and Carla Suga. Megan Blue and Eleonore Tchakarova will play in Flight "B" and Erin Patton, Verginie Tchakarova and Suzaan Stoltz will all compete at Flight "C". Each flight consists of 16 seeds with four wins being needed to be crowned champion.
Three teams will also play in the doubles portion of the Open. Eskauriatza and Suga will team up and receive a bye to the second round. Blue and Patton will also team up and the Tchakarova sisters will be partners.
This will be the second consecutive year that Murray State will participate in the Austin Peay Open. The Racers had some success last year at the tournament. Erin Patton won the Flight "C" consolation bracket and, along with Carla Suga, advanced to the semi-finals in the Flight "B" doubles competition. Megan Blue also advanced to the semifinals in Flight "A" doubles with former Racer, Ashley Canty.
