Five Racers in Championship at UTC Classic

Tournament Draws
Murray State women's tennis will be represented in four of the six possible singles finals matchups Sunday at the Steve Baras Classic held by Chattanooga. The Racers will send student-athletes to the Championship round at first, second, fifth and sixth singles.

Andrea Eskauriatza came from behind at first singles to claim her spot in the finals. After falling to Kristina Labeja of Eastern Kentucky 5-7 in the first set, Eskauriatza took the final two 7-5, 7-5 to win the match. She'll face Kayla Jones of host Chattanooga in the final round.

Murray State will send two of their own to the finals of No. 2 singles. Both Carla Suga and Eleonore Tchakarova advanced after winning in their respective semifinal draws. Suga defeated Flynn of UTC in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, while Tchakarova had to come from behind 2-6, 6-1, 4-1 (ret.) to earn her spot.

Erin Patton and Suzaan Stoltz both won in straight sets at fifth and sixth singles respectively. Patton defeated Melissa Gerritsen of EKU 6-4, 6-1 and will face Catherine Ragon of Alabama-Birmingham in the finals. Stoltz disposed of Katie McCall of UT Martin 6-3, 6-1 for the right to battle Jessiva Silva, also of UTM in the finals.

The Racers almost made it five student-athletes in the final round, but Megan Blue dropped a tough three-set battle with Jana Hueckinghaus of Kansas State, 5-7, 6-1, 2-6.

Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova was the only tandem remaining for MSU in the doubles draw, but they fell to Kayla Jones and Katie Polk of UTC, 8-3.

The Championship round is set to begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the No. 1 and No. 2 draws. Draw No. 5 is scheduled for 11:30 a.m and draw No. 6, 11 a.m. Â
