Racers One Stroke Back Heading into the Final Round

The Murray State men's golf team stands one shot off the lead heading into Tuesday's final round of the 10th annual MSU Invitational in Murray, Ky., at Miller Memorial Golf Course.
Alabama State and defending champion Lipscomb shared the lead at 571, with the Racers just behind by one shot at 572, ahead of fourth place Belmont (573) and fifth place Eastern Kentucky (576).
Preston French led the Racers with a spot in second place after rounds of 69-68=137. French was one shot off the medalist lead of Belmont's Ben Simpson who carded scores of 72-64=136.
MSU's Jared Gosser had scores of 68-72=140 and was in third place, while Duncan McCormick was in 24th place with scores of 71-76=147. T.J. Ferry was in 33rd place with rounds of 75-73=148, while Jordan Smith was in 49th place after rounds of 75-77=152.
MSU had scores of 282-289=572, with Alabama State recording scores of 282-289=571 and Lipscomb 287-284=571.
The Racers have a second team in the field of 14 teams. The Racer B team had scores of 292-295=587 and had a spot in seventh place.
MSU's second team was led by Chasten Howard  who was in fifth place with scores of 72-70=142, while Brock Simmons had rounds of 72-71=143 for a spot in 11th place. Daniel Harper was in 40th place with scores of 72-77=149, with Matthew Zakutney in 57th place after rounds of 76-77=153. Travis Thompson rounded out the Racers with a spot in 73rd place with scores of 81-78=159.
UT Martin was in sixth place at 580. After the MSU B team in seventh place at 587, the rest of the field included Tennessee Tech (592), Western Illinois (596), Morehead State (597), Union (TN) (598), John A. Logan (607), UT Martin B (612) and Bethel (TN) (620).
The final round begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday morning.
