The Murray State women's basketball will look to snap a two-game skid Monday when it travels to Eastern Illinois. Tip-off for the OVC West showdown is set for 7 p.m., at Lantz Arena in Charleston
Murray State battled back to overcome an early 11-0 deficit, only to falter down the stretch and fall, 71-67, Saturday afternoon at SIU Edwardsville. After struggling out of the gate, the Racers answered SIUE's early run with a 13-2 run of their own. MSU used seven first half 3-pointers and seven straight points from Julia Fox in the final three minutes of the opening stanza to take a 33-29 lead into the locker room at the break.
However, the Racers were not able to sustain their 43.8 3-point percentage form the first half in the second and connected on just three of 11 from long-range in the second half. MSU had its chances down the stretch, but a poorly timed foul and two made free throws by SIUE resulted in the lead going back out to four with 13 second to go and virtually sealing the win for the Cougars.
Janssen Starks and Julia Fox both had career games by posting 24 and 15 points, respectively. Jessica Winfrey notched her 11th double-digit performance of the season, while Chanyere Hosey followed with nine.
Monday will be the 41st meeting all-time between the Racers and the Panthers, with Murray State holding a 24-16 advantage. Last season, the Racers snapped a three-game skid to EIU by picking up a win in Murray, only to have the Panthers return the favor a month later in Charleston.
Murray State is 7-11 all-time at Eastern Illinois and has won just one of the past six meetings at Lantz Arena. In Murray, the Racers have owned the Panthers, falling just five times in 20 meetings

The Panthers are currently 7-10 on the year and 2-4 in OVC play. On Saturday, Austin Peay topped EIU on their home court, 64-56. Despite shooting, 38.2 percent for the game, the Panthers committed 17 turnovers in the contest, helping result in the eight-point loss. Jordyne Crunk led EIU in the game with 15 points, while Katlyn Payne and Erica Brown followed with 12 and 11, respectively.
Leading scorer Sabina Oroszova, who averages 17.5 points per game, was held to just five in the contest, despite pulling down a game-high 14 boards. Oroszova is also the Panthers' leading rebounder at the moment, averaging 10.6 rebounds per game.
EIU enters the game as the second-leading free throw shooters and the best shot blockers in the league at 72.5 percent and 4.5 blocks per game. The Panthers currently score 61.6 points per game, the lowest total in the OVC, but give up just 67.1 points per game, the second fewest in the league.
