After two straight near come-from-behind wins, the Murray State women's basketball team will look to put its current four-game skid in its rearview mirror Monday against Tennessee Tech at the CFSB Center.
Another second-half surge was not enough to overcome a second-straight sluggish first half, as Murray State fell for the fourth straight game, 78-76, to Tennessee Tech Saturday at the CFSB Center. The Racers bounced back from a 23.7 percent, 23 point performance in the opening stanza, to shoot 43.2 percent from the floor and score 53 points in the second. However, even a buzzer-beating three by Julia Fox to end the game only cut to the lead, as Jacksonville State snapped a 12-game skid to the Racers.
Â
Bianca Babic and Jessica Winfrey each recorded career-highs in the game at 21 and 20, respectively. The duo also tied their respective career-highs in rebounds with Winfrey pulling down 20 and Babic tallying eight.
All 21 of Babic's points came from 3-point range; marking just the seventh time in program history a player has made at least seven 3-pointers. Winfrey ended the first half with a double-double, making her the first player since Mariah Robinson in 2011 to do so. She now has six double-doubles, 12 10-plus rebound games and six games in which she has pulled down 15 or more boards.
Â
Despite a lopsided 58-15 record against Tennessee Tech, the Racers have had a string of recent success against the Golden Eagles. Murray State has won nine of the last 15 meetings in the series, including two of the last three. Last season, the Racers ventured to Cookeville and picked up just their fourth win in 38 tries. In Murray, MSU is 23-11 against Tech and have one six of the last seven meetings at the CFSB Center.
Â
After falling to Austin Peay, 79-70, Saturday, Tennessee Tech will enter Monday night 7-13 overall and 4-3 in the OVC. The Golden Eagles trailed by just one at the half Saturday in Clarksville, but a scorching 53.6 shooting performance in the second half by Austin Peay led to the nine-point loss.
Â
Diamond Henderson eclipsed her season average of 18.9 points by leading her team with 25 points. Candace Parson followed behind Henderson with 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds for her team's only double-double. Parson currently leads TTU in rebounds on the season at 6.0 per game.
Â
The Golden Eagles currently average 67.7 points per game, while allowing 74.5. Tech makes buckets at a relatively high-rate at 41.7 percent, the second-highest in the league.
