Volleyball Defeats SIUE

The Murray State volleyball team topped SIU Edwardsville 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 25-23, 25-11) on Saturday at Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Illinois.
The first set was close and both teams went back and forth with points until Murray State (14-4, 5-1 OVC) took a 17-14 lead. The Cougars (9-12, 1-5 OVC) tried to make a comeback but the Racers kept their lead 20-16. SIU Edwardsville would continue to chip away at the lead when they tied the game 21-21. The Cougars would take the first set 26-24.
MSU took a quick lead in the second set starting with a 16-9 advantage. SIU Edwardsville tried to come back, but Murray State remained in control with a 22-13 lead. Murray State took the second set 25-15.
The third set, like the first, was close as both teams fought for the lead. The Cougars had a 13-9 lead until Murray State tied it up 18-18. Both teams continued to go back and forth on points until the Racers took the fourth set 25-23
Murray State dominated in the fourth set. The Racers took an 11-5 lead and never let up that lead. They continued to show their dominance until they won the fourth set, 25-11.
Two Racers notched double doubles. Sam Bedard turned in 43 assists along with 11 digs, while Scottie Ingram recorded 17 kills and 14 digs. Kristen Besselsen also turned in 17 kills. Ellie Lorenz helped defensively with 17 digs.
Murray State will face Belmont on Saturday, October 17 at Nashville, Tennessee at 6 p.m.
