Racers Travel to Nashville to Face Belmont, TSU

The Murray State volleyball team will face Belmont (9-10, 5-1 OVC) and Tennessee State (8-12, 2-4 OVC) this weekend. MSU will face the Bruins on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Then the Racers will go up against Tennessee State at 12 p.m. on Saturday at Kean Hall in Nashville, Tennessee.

This past weekend, the Racers defeated both Eastern Illinois 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23) and SIU Edwardsville 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-23, 25-11). Both Scottie Ingram and Sam Bedard recorded double-doubles in both matches. Ingram turned in 20 kills and 12 digs against Eastern Illinois, while recording 17 kills and 14 digs against SIU Edwardsville. Sam Bedard recorded 46 assists along with 14 digs against EIU and then added 43 assists and 11 digs against SIUE. Kristen Besselsen had a career-high 18 kills against EIU and then was one point shy of her career-high with 17 kills against SIUE. Ellie Lorenz helped with 32 total digs for the weekend. After the weekend, Scottie Ingram was named Offensive Player of the Week.

The Racers jumped 14 spots in the new RPI rankings to come into 130th place. The team is ranked 13th in digs per set with 17.20, 32nd in kills per set with 13.82, and 51sy in hitting percentage with .249. Individually, Sam Bedard is ranked 39th with 10.80 assists per set. Ellie Lorenz is 45th with 4.77 digs per set.
The Bruins won both matches this weekend at Tennessee Tech and then at Jacksonville State. They swept Tennessee Tech 3-0, and then defeated Jacksonville State in a tough five set match, 3-2. Against Tennessee Tech, Belmont finished with a season-high .370 hitting percentage on the match, while holding TTU to a .140 hitting percentage. Against Jacksonville State, Arianna Person finished with 14 kills and 23 digs. Belmont finished hitting .209 against Jacksonville State. Emma Price recorded a double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs against TTU. She also had a season-high .370 attack percentage. She dished out a career-best 69 assists versus Jacksonville State. After the weekend Emma Price was named Setter of the Week.

Tennessee State fell to both Jacksonville State 0-3 and Tennessee Tech 1-3. Naomi Wells recorded 12 kills and 11 digs versus Jacksonville State. The Tigers were without Taylor Swayzer who injured her ankle pre-game warm-ups against Tennessee Tech. Sam Beltran recorded 67 assists over the weekend. The team hit .188 verses Jacksonville State and then .067 against Tennessee Tech.
