Harness broke a 47-year old record for receptions in a game when he pulled down 19 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown. The previous record of 16 was set in 1967 by Harvey Tanner against Austin Peay. His quarterback, KD Humphries, broke Casey Brockman's record of completions in a game by going 48-for-62 for a career-high 386 yards, one passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns.
The two teams traded field goals in the first quarter, to end the opening stanza at 3-3. In the second, Humphries put the Racers ahead with a pair of rushing touchdowns of 24 and seven yards to edge MSU ahead, 17-10. In between the two Racer touchdowns, Tennessee Tech's Ladarius Vanlier rank back a kick-off 99 yards for TTU's first score of the game.
The Golden Eagles started off the third with a nine-play, 73-yard drive that ended in a one-yard run by Willie Davis to tie the game at 17. However, Murray State answered on the very next drive with a three-yard pass from Humphries to Harness, putting the Racers back on top, 24-17.
In the middle of the fourth, Tennessee Tech tied the game on a 25-yard pass from Darian Stone to Cody Matthews, knotting the game at 24. With less than two minutes left, Carson Greifenkamp put Murray State on top with a 38-yard field goal. Not to be outdone, TTU's John Arnold knocked down a 41-yarder with nine seconds to go to send the game into overtime.
Murray State went first in overtime but turned the ball over without scoring after Greifenkamp missed a 35-yard field goal attempt. In the ensuing Tennessee Tech position, after the drive stalled, TTU won the game on a 20-yard field goal from Arnold, 30-27.
In addition, to Humphries and Harness' performances Janawski Davis had a good night with nine catches for 96 yards. Pokey Harris followed with 140 all-purpose yards; 81 on returns, 46 rushing, and 13 receiving.
Defensively, MSU was led by Jonathan Jackson with 12 tackles, including a half sack and a half tackle for loss. Travis Taylor followed with 10 tackles including one and a half tackles for loss. DeQuinten Spraggins and D'Montre Wade each had an interception, however those were offset on the night by the three lost MSU fumbles.
On Saturday, the Racers will welcome Southeast Missouri to The Track for homecoming. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
