Schwepker and Ingram Headline OVC Awards

Murray State head coach David Schwepker was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year, while Scottie Ingram was named OVC Player of the Year. Sam Bedard and Taylor Olden were named to the OVC First Team at the Volleyball Banquet Wednesday before the Racers host the OVC Tournament at Racer Arena Thursday – Saturday. Murray State faces Southeast Missouri in the first round Thursday at 3 p.m.
Head coach Dave Schwepker was named OVC Coach of the Year for the first time in his 16 year tenure. He is the second Murray State volleyball coach to receive this honor joining Brenda Bowlin who won the award in 1994. Schwepker finished the regular season 14-2 in conference and a 23-5 overall mark to bring Murray State their first OVC Regular Season title in program history. MSU had a perfect 9-0 record at Racer Arena. He helped the team lead in hitting percentage (.257), assists per set (13.21), kills per set (14.26), and digs per set (17.11).
Ingram was named OVC Player of the Year, only the second Racer to be named to this honor since Sarah Dearworth in 1994. The sophomore outside hitter averaged 3.76 kills per set this year while finishing the regular season with a .273 attack percentage. She leads the league with 4.57 kills per set in conference play. She finished the 2014 regular season with 262 digs and notched 13 double-doubles. Ingram was named OVC Player of the Week three times in a row from Oct. 6 – Oct. 20.
Sam Bedard and Taylor Olden were named to the OVC Team. The junior setter recorded 1035 assists while averaging 11.83 assists per set to lead the OVC. Bedard put down 80 kills with a .234 attack percentage. With her help, the team leads the OVC in assists per set. Bedard has 13 double-doubles on the season. Bedard earned four OVC Setter of the Week honors (Sept. 8, Sept. 29, Oct. 20, Nov. 3). Olden finished the regular season ranked fifth in the OVC with 3.47 kills per set on a .233 clip. She turned in 312 kills this season, and had seven double-doubles. The junior outside hitter recorded 29.0 blocks and 211 digs along with 23 assists. She earned OVC Player of the Week once on Nov. 3.Â
