Racers Rally To Beat Lipscomb 74-71

The women's basketball team defeated Lipscomb 74-71 Tuesday at the CFSB Center. MSU continues to hold a five game winning streak over the Lady Bison, along with a three game winning streak at the Bank.
To start the first half, the Racers (3-2) went on 13-3 run coming off of five two pointers and one from behind the arc. The Lady Bison (1-4) were quick to turn the game in their favor by hitting eight from behind the arc to take the lead 30-27. MSU was able to get 10 points off of second chances and five points off of turnovers, but that wasn't enough to go into the locker room with the lead. They went into halftime with Lipscomb holding a 44-37 advantage off of the Racers.
MSU came into the second half strong, but wasn't able to take an advantage. They had two 6-0 runs during the second half, but were unable to gain control to start the second half because of turnovers. The last six minutes of the game were extremely close with both teams battling for the lead as the Racers cut the lead of the Lady Bison 64-62. Keiona Kirby tied the score with one free-throw made to make the score 66-66. Olivia Cunningham went up for a layup and gave the Racers a 68-67 lead, which they continued to hold until they won the game 74-71.
Ke'Shunan James and Kirby recorded 18 points apiece, along with Netanya Jackson and Olivia Cunningham added 10. James led the team with eight rebounds, as the team outrebounded Lipscomb by four. The Racers shot .517 from the field, while holding the Lady Bison to .413.
Murray State travels to Muncie, Indiana for the Ball State Cardinal Classic Tournament where they will face Ball State Saturday Nov. 29 at 1:30 p.m. The Racers will then face either Duquesne or Jackson State Saturday Nov. 30. All games will be broadcasted on 1340 AM.
