Volleyball Heads To Illinois For NCAA Tournament

The Murray State volleyball team will make its first NCAA appearance in 11 years Friday, when it takes on the ninth overall national seed Illinois at Huff Hall in Champaign at 7 p.m. CST/8 p.m. EST.
The Illini ended the regular season 24-7 overall and ranked 11th in the last AVCA Top 25 poll, to go along with a 16-4 mark in Big Ten play which was good enough for third place. Friday will mark the second time the Racers and Illini have met in the NCAA Tournament, as Illinois hosted Murray State in its only other appearance in 2003.
Should the Racers win on Friday, they would advance to Saturday to take on the winner of the other match in the Champaign quad between Iowa State (18-9) and Western Kentucky (30-5) at 7 p.m. CST/8 p.m. EST.
The Racers earned their second trip to the NCAA Tournament by sweeping through the OVC tournament and will enter the tournament boasting a program best 26 wins against just five losses. In addition, Murray State ended OVC play with a 14-2 mark to earn the first regular-season league crown in school history.
Murray State will be providing a student fan bus to Illinois. It is first-come, first-serve and you must contact Marketing ahead of time if interested! Van will leave Friday afternoon.Â
