Volleyball Travels to Face UTM and SEMO

Murray State volleyball will face UT Martin Friday at Martin, Tennessee at 7 p.m. before facing Southeast Missouri State Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Mo. at 2 p.m.

MSU got their 11th and 12th sweep of the season this weekend with wins over Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech. The Racers improve to 11-1 in the OVC to go along with a nine game winning streak.Against Jacksonville State, Kristen Besselsen recorded 10 kills along with 10 digs while Sam Bedard turned in 43 assists and a match-high 14 digs. Taylor Olden matched her season-high 19 kills to go along with her seven digs and one service ace. Against Tennessee Tech, four Racers had double-kill performances. Scottie Ingram had a match-high 15 kills to go along with her 11 digs. Olden turned in 12 kills, while Besselsen repeated her 10 kills, 10 dig performance, Alyssa Lelm also turned in 10 kills to go along with a .750 hitting percentage. Bedard dished out 45 assists. Murray State hit .545 which now stands as the team record for kill percentage for three set matches. After the weekend, Olden was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Bedard was named Setter of the Week.

The Racers continue to see their names in NCAA National Rankings. As a team, they have ranked in the top 30 in six categories: kills per set 13th, match W-L percentage 15th, digs per set 17th, assists per set 22nd, hitting percentage 30th, and opponent hitting percentage 30th. Individually, Sam Bedard ranks 20th in assists per set, and 98th in total assists. Ellie Lorenz ranks 63rd in digs per set and 122nd in total digs. Scottie Ingram and Taylor Olden rank 77th and 138th, respectively, in kills per set. Alyssa Lelm ranks 120th in hitting percentage with her .331 clip.

Over the weekend, UT Martin fell to both SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois. They lost a five-set match against SIU Edwardsville. Allie Whimpey provided 15 kills with 12 digs, while Emily Keaton tallied 14 kills and 15 digs. Chelsea Bowles handed out 46 assists while Colleen Larson recorded 11 digs to help defensively. The following day, the Skyhawks were swept by Eastern Illinois. Keaton hit .414 as she totaled 14 kills. Madison Bergren added 25 assists with Bowles 13 digs to provide some defensive help. With their two losses this weekend, UT Martin fell to 3-9 in the OVC.

The Redhawks went 1-1 this weekend with a win over Eastern Illinois before falling to SIU Edwardsville, both in grueling five set matches. Andrea Baylin had 13 kills to along with 18 digs. Kelsey Keeve recorded 14 kills, six blocks and 19 digs while she hit .278. Against the Cougars, Taylor Masterson tied her career-high 17 kills while also hitting .457. Baylin added 14 kills and 15 digs. The Redhawks are 6-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference
