Murray State women's tennis team ended a brief two-game skid with a 6-1 win over Central Arkansas. Each Racer picked up at least one win in the match and MSU swept the doubles competition.
Playing an eight-point doubles match, the tandems of Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova and Erin Patton and Andrea Eskauriatza each took home 8-2 victories at first and second doubles respectively. Carla Suga and Megan Blue completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3.
Over in singles competition, Erin Patton played in the most entertaining match of the afternoon at No. six singles. Patton got on the board early with a 6-3 win in the first set, but would fall to Krizia Buck 6-1 in the second, leveling the match. The two then traded points until Patton was finally able to win the tie-breaker and the match 11-9.
Eleonore Tchakarova also needed three sets to claim victory. Playing in the No. three draw, Tchakarova battled to win the first set 6-4. She then couldn't get on the board in the second set, falling 6-0 to force a third set. Tchakarova found her footing though in the final frame, putting her opponent away with a 6-1 win.
Eskauriatza, Suga and Verginie Tchakarova dispatched their opponents in straight sets. Eskauriatza moves to 4-1 in dual competition and 12-2 overall.
Blue suffered the only singles defeat on the afternoon. She lost a heartbreaker at the No. four draw in the third set. After falling behind 1-0, Blue came back to force a third set with a 7-5 win in the second set. She couldn't complete the comeback however, falling 10-8.
The Racers have a quick turnaround and will travel to Carbondale, Ill. to take on SIU. The Salukis are 1-3 on the year with their only win over OVC foe, Austin Peay. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
