After snapping a seven-game skid on Saturday, the Murray State women's basketball team will look to keep its playoff hopes alive on Monday when it welcomes SIU Edwardsville to The Bank. The game will be the second in a stretch of five games in a 10-day span for MSU and also the second of three straight games at the CFSB Center.

The Racers put an end to a seven-game losing streak Saturday with a convincing 83-74 win over Eastern Illinois at home. The Panthers held a slight lead for the majority of the first half, but the Racers used a 16-4 run in the latter part of the stanza to take a 36-29 lead at the break. In the second half, Murray State led by as many as 14, but EIU responded by cutting the lead to only one with 5:17 to play. However, MSU buckled down and made 19 of 24 free throw attempts in the final five minutes to hold on for the 83-79 win.
Murray State also played excellent defense on the Panthers' Sabina Oroszova in the contest, who entered the game averaging team-highs of 17.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. The Racers were able to limit Oroszova to just six point and five boards before she fouled out of the game with over four minutes to play.
Bianca Babic led Murray State on the night with 17 points, 15 of which came by way of the 3-point shot. Jessica Winfrey and Netanya Jackson led the Racers on the boards, as they each pulled down a team-high six rebounds to go along with 15 and 11 points, respectively. Starks added two field goals to her 11 free throws to finish with 15 points, while Taylor Porter rounded out the five Racers in double figures with 11.

Monday will be just the 10th meeting between Murray State and SIU Edwardsville, with the Racers clinging to a 5-4 advantage. The Cougars closed the gap in the series to just one game last month when they edged Murray State, 71-67, at the Vadalabene Center. The series has been split, for the most part, down home/away lines, as MSU is 4-0 all-time in Murray and just 1-4 in Edwardsville.

The Cougars will enter Monday night at 8-18 overall and 4-9 in the league and like Murray State; they currently sit outside of the OVC play-off picture. On Saturday, like the Racers again, SIUE helped its own tournament chances by picking up an 81-65 win at Austin Peay.
Tierny Austin returned after nearly three weeks off due to injury and led the Cougars with a game-high 19 points off the bench. Meanwhile, Ashley Capotosto pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to pair with 11 points for her first career double-double.
Austin is the current scoring leader for SIUE, averaging 13.6 points per game and is also the team's rebounding leader at 7.4. The Cougars currently allow 72.7 points per game, while only scoring 64.7. As a team, SIUE is shooting 39.87 from the floor, 26.5 for 3-point range and 66.4 from the charity stripe.
