Emme Qualifies for NCAA Championship

Murray State rifle athlete Kelsey Emme has been selected to compete as an individual at the 2014 NCAA Rifle Championships in both the smallbore and air rifle competitions. The NCAA, which announced the 2014 field Thursday, will hold eight teams and eight individual qualifiers. The championships will take place March 14-15 and are hosted by Murray State.
Emme shot a personal-best 586 at the NCAA qualifier last weekend and has a season-best of 592 in the air rifle. Also at the NCAA qualifier, Emme shot a 589 in the air rifle to lead the Racers.
This will be the second time that Emme has competed at the NCAA championships. As a freshman in 2012, Emme competed in the air rifle competition at the NCAA championships and finished in ninth place.
Other teams coming to MSU are OVC champions Jacksonville State, West Virginia, Alaska-Fairbanks, Kentucky, TCU, Nebraska, Memphis and Army.
MSU is hosting the NCAA championships for the first time since 2004 and for the ninth time overall. This year, the smallbore portion of the event will take place on Friday, March 14 in the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range, while the air rifle will be held at the CFSB Center Saturday, March 15.
