MSU in 2nd Place After Day One of OVC Championships

The first day of the OVC Rifle Championships is in the books with Jacksonville State on top with a score of 2299. They are followed closely by Murray State (2295) in second place and UT Martin's Mixed team (2276) in third place. Columbus State (2261), Morehead State (2234) and UT Martin's women's team (2225) round out the scoring for day one.
MSU's Tessa Howald was the smallbore winner with a score of 582. Howald's score was a personal best and the second highest score for a Racer this season. Howald becomes the first Racer to win the smallbore since Kevin Witbrodt took a share of the crown in 2008.
Following Howald was Dacotah Faught of UTM's mixed team (580), Samantha Bullard of JSU (578) and Dan McCall of JSU (578).
Bill Harvey also placed in the top-five for MSU. His mark of 576 was good for fifth place. Kelsey Emme was the third Racer to place in the top-10. Her score of 573 placed her seventh overall. Katarina Bisercic (564) and Michael Burzynski (562) rounded out the scoring for MSU.
Tomorrow the Championship wraps up with the air rifle competition. The first relay is scheduled for 10 a.m. with the second at 12:30.Â
