Game 1 – Miami (OH) 7 (4-5), Murray St. 1 (7-6)
Miami's Taylor Shuey led off Saturday's game against the Murray State softball team with a home run and it did not get any better for the Racers from there. MSU went on to drop the day's opening game, 7-1.
Shuey was one of three RedHawks to go yard on the day as they finished the game with 12 hits. Murray State had its share of hits as well in the game, finishing with 11, but could not push runs across the plate.
The Racers' only run in the game came in the third when Shelbey Miller began the inning with a double. After a single by Mo Ramsey in the next at bat, Miller came home on a botched play by Miami that also allowed Alexa Becker to reach on a fielder's choice.
Ramsey was one of three Racers to tally two hits in the contest, along with Maggie Glass and Jessica Twaddle. Also picking up hits for MSU in the game were Miller, Becker, Casey Castile, Erica Howard and Mallory Young.
CheyAnne Gaskey fell to 3-4 on the year in the circle with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with two walks over 2.2 inning worth of work. J.J. Francis closed out the game for the Racers and was able to slow Miami down, giving up just two runs on five hits in the final 4.1 frames.
