At the conclusion of a two-day clinic and five hour tryout process held on the Murray State campus this past weekend, 14 young women including seven new team members have been selected to represent the navy and gold as members of the 2014-2015 Racer cheerleading squad. Thirty prospects, including three video submissions competed for spots on the squad.
After clinics on Friday and Sunday afternoon, the prospects went straight into a tryout evaluation Sunday evening. Prospects' skill level included competitive cheer team members and gymnasts, with each hoping to impress the judges and earn a position on next year's squad.
"We had a great turnout this weekend," said head coach Brittany Walls at the conclusion to the final day. "There were a lot of talented young ladies and it was a very tough decision. I'm excited about the 2014-15 school year."
The squad will cheer at all MSU football and basketball games. They will also represent Racer athletics at a number of events during the year and be involved in campus and community activities promoting attendance, spirit and participation for Racer home athletic events.
"Racer fans are going to enjoy what they see from these young women, added Morris White, Director of Marketing and Promotions and cheer advisor. "The entertainment value has definitely risen."
Those selected to be 2014-15 Murray State cheerleaders include: First-year members: Bryanna Handley, Michalea Jackson, Madison Evans, Allison Manley, Chaney Walker, Leah Miller and Whitney Henshaw. Returning from last year's squad are: Amie Jones, Kelsey Grapperhaus, Tiffany Whitfill, Kayla Adams, Haley Rohleder, Libby Menz and Ashley Jones.
