One day after defeating Eastern Kentucky in a battle of OVC unbeatens, Murray State's women's tennis team suffered a setback at the hands of Morehead State, 4-3. The loss is the team's first in league and drops their record to 7-1 in the OVC and 12-5 overall.
The afternoon started with the doubles point where each draw was tightly contested, and proved to be the difference in the match. The Racers won just one of the three matches, on court two where Andrea Eskauriatza and Erin Patton remained unbeaten in league play with an 8-5. The point came down to the top draw where Briar Preston and Alex Tachovsky just snuck by Eleonore and Verginie Tchakarova 8-7 (7-1 in the tiebreaker).
MSU went on to win three of the six singles matches. Both Verginie and Eleonore Tchakarova and Megan Blue remain undefeated in singles play with their wins. Verginie needed three sets to close out her match on court five, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Blue overcame a tough battle at the No. 4 position, defeating Tachovsky 7-5, 6-4. Eleonore Tchakarova had the quickest match of the afternoon, winning at the third draw, 6-1, 6-0.
The Racers will have one more weekend of matches before heading to Paducah, Ky. for the OVC championships. MSU will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. next Saturday, April 12, to take on Southeast Missouri and then to Martin, Tenn. for the regular season finale at UT Martin.
