A look at cross country's upcoming season
Murray State prepares for a challenging schedule that head coach Jenny Severns is looking for continued excellence and improvement from the team. The Racers ended fifth (women) and eighth (men) in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship last season.
When talking about the men's best finish of the season under Severns, she said, "Slowly and surely the guys are getting better. They keep moving up and that's all you can ask for. More experience will make them better."
"This recruiting class, I'm really excited about" said Severns when talking about the girl's team. "I think they can help make the whole team better."
The Racers will start their cross country season at the Belmont Opener on Aug 29. The Racers will then travel to the EIU Invitational on Sept 5. On Sept 19-20, the team will travel to compete in the Saluki Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois. The Notre Dame Invitational on Oct 3-4 is their next competition. The regular season will end when the Racers compete at the Bradley Classic on Oct 16-17 which will be held at the Newman Golf Course, site of the NCAA Midwest Regional.
The OVC Cross Country Championships are being held Nov 1 at Oxford Lake Park hosted by Jacksonville State. The Racers will have an opportunity to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional being hosted Nov 14 in Louisville.
Murray State cross country women's team boasts 12 returners and the men's team boasts five, both with four of their top five returning.
