Racers Open Conference Play at Racer Arena

Off to their best start since the 2006 season, Murray State volleyball (9-3) will begin conference play at Racer Arena against Southeast Missouri (4-9) on Friday, Sep. 26 at 7:00 p.m. and then against UT Martin (7-7) on Saturday, Sep. 27 at 2:00 p.m. MSU is 9-5 in home OVC openers.
The Racers have seen their names appear amongst NCAA ranks. As a team, MSU is ranked 12 with 17.19 digs per set. Individually, Ellie Lorenz is ranked 46th with 4.70 digs per set, Sam Bedard is ranked 89th with 10.15 assists per set and 90th with 0.38 aces per set, while Alyssa Lelm is 129th with a .339 hitting percentage.

Last week, Murray State finished the Valparaiso Crossroads of America Classic 0-3 as they fell to opponents Valparaiso (1-3), George Washington (1-3), and Sacramento State (1-3).

The Racers had four double-doubles during the weekend tournament, all against Valparaiso. Taylor Olden had 16 kills and 15 digs, Scottie Ingram turned in 15 kills and 13 digs, Kristen Besselsen added 10 kills and 16 digs, while Bedard added 45 assists and 26 digs.

Lorenz set career high 25-digs against the Crusaders and then matched that career high against Sacramento State. After the conclusion of the tournament, Lorenz was named to the All-Tournament team. She currently leads the team with 188 dig, while Bedard adds 396 assists. Olden currently leads the team with 124 kills.

Southeast Missouri is 4-9 overall going into conference play. They played in the Saint Louis Tournament (1-3), Indiana Invitational (0-3), Alabama State Tournament (3-1). This past week they fell to both UMKC (1-3) and Southern Illinois (2-3).

Andrea Baylin recorded her sixth double-double of the season against Southern Illinois. Baylin had a career-high 27 kills with 19 digs. The Redhawks average 11.82 kills per set while hitting .193.

The Skyhawks are 7-7 going into conference play. They have played in four tournaments; Alabama State Tournament (3-0), Memphis Tournament (0-3), Skyhawk Invitational (1-2), and Chattanooga Tournament (2-1). Madison Bergren had a triple-double against Stetson at the Chattanooga Tournament with 11 kills, 39 assists, and 11 digs.

 Three Skyhawks have over 100 kills on the season; Emily Keaton (128), Allie Whimpey (123), and Madison Wessling (120). The team averages .212 hitting while holding opponents to hitting .205.Â
