Racer Volleyball Defeats Liberty

Murray State Volleyball defeated tournament host Liberty 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20) during their opening match of the Liberty Invitational Friday night.

All of the sets were close during this 3-1 victory. During the first set, Murray State took a 12-5 lead before Liberty was able to cut the gap to 18-14. Having the advantage early, the Racers were able to take the first set 25-20. The second set was a tight race to the finish. The score was tied 13 times during the second set. Liberty held the advantage for most of the set and was able to defeat Murray State 23-25. MSU took the advantage back during the third set. The Racers led 11-7 before Liberty cut the lead 12-10. MSU was still able to hold off Liberty and win the set 25-19. The fourth set was another close set. Murray State was able to take a lead early and keep Liberty from outscoring them. They held a 10-7 advantage before Liberty made it a 11-9 set. However, Murray State was able to pull out a win and win the set 25-20.

Scottie Ingram  and Taylor Olden led the team in kills with 22 and 19, respectively. Followed by Kristen Besselsen with 14 and Alyssa Lelm with seven. Â

Lelm led the team with six blocks.

Ellie Lorenz and Sam Bedard tied for team lead in digs with 17. This marks Lorenz's third double-dig match of the season.

Three Racers had double-doubles. Ingram had 22 kills and 16 digs, Bedard 48 assists and 17 digs, and Besselsen had 14 kills and 15 digs.

Bedard led the Racers with 48 assists. Bedard leads the team with 150 assists.
The Racers will face USC Upstate and Howard Saturday at 8:00am and 3:30 to finish out the tournament.Â
