Racers Take Step in Right Direction in Louisville

The Murray State men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Pre Nationals in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday. Both teams finished in 28th place in their respective divisions.
The women's team competed in the Women's 6k Black Division. Leading the pack for the Racers once again was Brittany Bohn finishing in 72nd place with a time of 22:03, the second fasted 6k time in MSU history. Meagan Smith was the second to finish for the Racers in 109th place with a time of 22:27. Rebekah Priddy finished next for the Racers with a time of 22:54. Emma Gilmore followed closely behind with a time of 22:56. Ali Hester finshed with a time of 23:10. Rounding out the pack for Murray State was Leah Krause with a time of 23:45 and Emily Flaherty with a time of 24:21.
The Racers also had runners compete in the Women's 6k Open Division. Caroline Grogan finished in 54th place with a time of 22:52. Emani Griffin finished in 113th play with a time of 24:13.
The men's team competed in the Men's 8k Black Division. Mark Ventura was the first Racer to finish as he placed 109th with a time of 25:34. Gavin Galanes was the second Racer to finish as he placed 123rd with a time of 25:41. Lucas Prather was the next to finish in 153rd with a time of 25:59. Vince Turner followed closely behind with a time of 26:07. Cole Cisneros finished with a time of 26:38. Rounding out the pack for the Racers was Evan Staviski with a time of 27:15 and Neil Yockey with a time of 27:39.
Head coach Jenny Swieton was pleased with both team's performances.
"It was a great race for the men. Vince Turner really stepped up to close the gap between him and those at the top. The women's team took a step in the right direction. The girls worked really well together," Swieton said.
The next meet for the Racers will be the OVC Championship on October 31st. Murray State will be hosting the meet at the the Miller Memorial Golf Course. Races are set to start at 10 a.m.
