Prather Leads Racers At OVC Championship

Murray State cross country teams competed on their home course as they hosted the OVC Championship Saturday at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Kentucky.
The event was the first time Murray State hosted the OVC Championship at Miller Memorial and the first since 2003.
Each team came away with many positives as the Racer women's team finished in fourth place while the men's team finished in sixth place.
On the men's side, Lucas Prather led the Racers with a 25th place finish with a time of 26:05 in the 8K race. Mark Ventura followed in 26thplace with a time of 26:13. Gavin Galanes finished in 32ndplace with a time of 26:26 and Vince Turner finished 39thwith a time of 26:48. Cole Cisneros ran a 27:07 to finish in 51stplace and Evan Staviski placed 66thwith a time of 28:24. Neil Yockey followed closely behind finishing in 67thplace with a time of 28:29. Gavin Davis finished 80thwith a time of 30:20.
Senior Brittany Bohn led the pack for the Racers with a 10th place finish in a time of 18:00 on the 5K course. Meagan Smith was not far behind with a 14th place finish with a time of 18:11. Bohn and Smith each earned All-OVC honors for their efforts.
Next to finish for the Racers was Rebekah Priddy in 22nd place with a time of 18:28 and Caroline Grogan followed with a time of 18:43 to earn a spot in 30th place. Ali Hester finished 33rd at 18:46 and Emily Flaherty finished in 52ndwith a time of 19:22. Emma Gilmore finished in 58th place with a time of 19:40 and Leah Krause finished in 61st place with a time of 19:58.
With their finishes, Bohn and Smith made Second Team All OVC. Priddy set a personal record in the race. Bohn tied her personal best. Smith and Hester finished with season best times.
The fourth place finish for the Racer women was their best OVC finish since 2012 and the men's sixth place finish was their best since finishing third in 2002.
Head coach Jenny Swieton was impressed with both teams performances.
"It was a total team effort out there," said Swieton. "They put everything out there on the coarse and showed great improvement throughout the season."
Swieton praised Prather, the top finisher on the men's side. "Lucas did an awesome job at leading the way for the men and had his best finish at the conference meet by 20 places."
The Racers' next meet will be the NCAA Regionals in Charlottesville, Virginia on November 13.
