Racers Compete at Notre Dame Invitational

The Murray State cross country teams competed in the 2015 Notre Dame Invitational on Friday with the men's team finishing 14th and the women's team placing 15th. Five different Racers from the women's team set new personal records in the race, with Brittany Bohn, Rebekah Priddy, Emani Griffin, Jacquelyn Thate, and Heatherly Paschal all turning in new career-best times.
The men's team competed in the men's gold five mile race with Mark Ventura being the first to finish for the Racers in 52nd with a time of 25:44. Gavin Galanes finished shortly behind Ventura in 68th place with a time of 26:01,while Cole Cisneros finished with a time of 26:27. Vince Turner finished with a time of 26:38 with Evan Staviski (27:18), Neil Yockey (27:37), and Jarred Koerner (29:29) also competing for the Racers.
The women's team competed in the women's gold 5K and saw Brittany Bohn finished in 17th place in the race with a time of 18:00. Meagan Smith followed at 18:28, while Ali Hester ran a 19:03. Rebekah Priddy was not far behind in 19:05, while Emma Gilmore (19:12), Leah Krause (19:15), and Emily Flaherty (19:18) also competed for the Racers.
Some of the Racer women also competed in the women's open 5K with Emani Griffin running a 19:29 and Jacquelyn Thate turning in a time of 19:42. Heatherly Paschall ran the course in 20:30,while Ida Mutai rounded out the Racers with a time of 21:25.
After the race, head coach Jenny Swieton commented on the men's teams performance. "They put themselves in good position from the beginning and it really paid off," said Swieton. "Our top five are stronger than we have been in a really long time."
The Racers next meet will be on Oct. 17 at the 2015 Pre Nationals at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
