Volleyball Signees Square-Off at State Tournament

Two Murray State volleyball commits will face-off Friday afternoon in the Class 3A Semifinals of the Illinois State Volleyball Tournament.
Megan Lindsay of Mascoutah High School and Rachel Giustino of Marian Central Catholic, who both committed to play volleyball for the Racers beginning next fall on Wednesday, will square-off in the match. Lindsay's 32-7 Mascoutah squad is making its first-ever appearance in the state tournament while Giustino's 37-3 Marian Central squad is making its first appearance since 2011 in the tournament, when they lost in the finals to Mater Dei High School. Mater Dei is the alma mater of current Racer Sam Bedard, who was the setter on that state championship team.
Lindsay leads her squad with 272 kills and 287 digs this season while Giustino's 316 kills is second on the team, as is her 235 digs.
"It's cool that we have two incoming student-athletes facing each other in the state semifinals, just two days after both committing to play at Murray State," said Racer head coach David Schwepker.
"It's a heck of an accomplishment for both and the fact that they'll soon be teammates is awesome."Â
