Bedard, Ingram and Schwepker Headline All-OVC

Scottie Ingram became the sixth player in league history to be named OVC Player of the Year in back-to-back years, head coach David Schwepker became the fifth coach in OVC history to win Coach of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons and the seventh coach to win multiple honors and Sam Bedard became the inaugural OVC Setter of the Year winner, to headline the All-OVC honors for Murray State, announced Wednesday night at the OVC Tournament banquet. Kristen Besselsen was also named to the All-OVC Team.
Schwepker was named Coach of the Year after leading the Racers to their second-straight OVC regular season title, becoming just the seventh team in league history to win back-to-back outright regular season championships. MSU went 15-1 in league play this season and had 11 sweeps, including the first eight in OVC play. The Racers led the conference in five statistical categories including hitting percentage (.232), opponent hitting percentage (.114), assists per set (14.11), kills per set (14.98) and digs per set (17.54). Schwepker is the third coach in program history to be named coach of the year (Oscar Segovia, 1989 and Brenda Bowlin, 1994).
Ingram, who was also the 2014 OVC Player of the Year, was second in the league this season in kills per set with 4.06 while hitting .262. Ingram's 4.56 points per set ranked fourth-best in the conference and her 16 service aces were 10th. Ingram, who also averaged 3.12 digs per set during conference play, recorded seven double-doubles during the OVC season and had double-digit kills in 13 matches, including five with 15 or more and two 20-plus kill outings. Ingram joins Sarah Dearworth (1994) as the only other player in program history to be named player of the year.
Bedard's Setter of the Year honor comes in the first season of the award. Bedard led the league for the second consecutive season in assists, averaging 11.57 per set. Bedard engineered an offense that hit a league-high .232 as a team. Her 18 service aces ranked ninth in the OVC. Bedard recorded 11 double-doubles in conference play and averaged 3.54 digs per set to go along with 45 kills. Bedard recorded 40 or more assists in eight matches and had a season-high 63 against Eastern Illinois.
Besselsen ranked seventh in the OVC in kills with 3.27 per set and in points with 3.97 per. Her 0.36 service aces per set were eighth in league play. Besselsen recorded 10 or more kills in nine OVC matches this season and also recorded a pair of double-doubles. Besselsen had a season-best 16 kills and hit .433 in a win over Eastern Illinois in October. Besselsen hit .237 for the year in conference play.
The Racers host the OVC Tournament Nov. 19-21 at Racer Arena and open play against Southeast Missouri at 7 p.m. on the 19th.
