The Murray State women's basketball team returns home for the first time in nearly two weeks as the Racers host Blue Mountain (Miss.) Monday at "The Bank". Monday will be MSU's first home game since Dec. 2 when the Racers hosted Southern Illinois, a 70-57 loss. The Racers are 1-2 this season at the CFSB Center.
The Racers are coming off their best performance of the season in their last outing at Evansville Dec. 5. MSU picked up a 73-54 victory at the Ford Center. The Racers shot a season-high 54.7 percent from the floor and 47.6 percent from 3-point range. LeAsia Wright had a monster game, scoring a career-high 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Wright also made a career-best eight 3-pointers in the win. The eight threes are one shy of the school single-game record of nine. Ke'Shunan James added 17 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals in the win.
In three games this season against Missouri Valley Conference opponents, Wright is averaging 18.3 points and 4.3 assists per game with 13 made 3-pointers on 50 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
MSU's win at Evansville last weekend is its second straight at the Ford Center. Prior to last Saturday and 2013's victory, the Racers had lost four consecutive to Evansville on the road. The average margin of defeat in those contests was 13.3 points. The Racers have won by an average of 12.5 points in the last two games at the Ford Center.
Kyra Gulledge has been MSU's top rebounder by far this season, leading the team averaging 8.8 boards per contest. Gulledge has grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds in four games and had a nine-rebound and eight-rebound performance as well. Gulledge also leads the Racers averaging over three offensive rebounds per game and has led MSU in rebounding in six of eight games.
The Lady Toppers have three players averaging double figures per game this season and are led by Bryana Davis' 13.9 points per game. Davis also leads BMC with 17 assists in 2015-16. Kristen Milewski and Matavia Cox are second and third on the team averaging 11.6 and 11 points per game, respectively. Cox also leads the team averaging 4.4 rebounds per contest. Milewski is by far and away the Toppers' top 3-point shooter with 20 made 3-pointers and is shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc. BMC is averaging 63.1 points per game and is allowing 71.7 per. Blue Mountain is led by 10th-year head coach Lavon Driskell.
