SIUE Walks Off to Win Game Two in Extras

The Cougars (5-9, 5-0 OVC) were able to rally to force extra innings as they got an RBI double by Alec Saikal in the ninth to tie the game at 6-6 with one out in the inning. Murray State (6-13, 2-3 OVC) drops to 1-1 this season in extra innings games.
The Racers were able to take a 6-5 lead in the top half of the ninth inning on Clay Kelly's first home run of the season. Kelly hit a towering shot to left center field to score Derek Yoder to give MSU the lead before Saikal was able to tie things in the bottom half.
MSU was able to get out to an early lead as it scored a first inning run for the eighth time this season on a Dalton West RBI ground-out that scored Matthew Johnson. The Racers added another in the second on a McGowan RBI scoring Derek Yoder to make it 2-0 Racers. The Cougars rallied in the third however, getting back-to-back home runs with two outs in the bottom of the second to make it 3-2 SIUE.
Johnson's team-best eighth double of the season tied things in the third when he brought home Brock Downey to score. Again, SIUE responded with a run both the fourth and fifth innings and took a 5-3 lead into the eighth inning as the Racers' bats went without a hit in innings four through seven.
Tyler Lawrence's third homer of the season cut the deficit to 5-4 on a solo shot to left field in the eighth, which seemed to spark the Racer bats in the ninth and 10th innings. Yoder was able to single in the ninth to lead off the inning for the Racers before Kelly's home run. While back-to-back two-out hits in the 10th from Nick Moore and Anthony Bayus gave MSU the lead on Bayus' RBI double to left center.
Tyler Anderson takes the loss in the contest for the Racers. Anderson allowed two runs on three hits in an inning of work. Brandon Hicks pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief for MSU as he allowed just one hit in his appearance. Brad Boegel got the start and the no decision in the game. Boegel allowed five runs through five innings of work and struck-out five batters and allowed eight hits.
Johnson, Lawrence and Yoder each had two hits in the loss for the Racers to lead the team, with Yoder getting a pair of runs scored. As a team, Murray State had five extra-base hits in the game (three doubles and two home runs).
The Racers and Cougars will play the series finale Monday in a 3 p.m. first pitch from Lee Field.
