Volleyball Opens Spring Play at UT Martin

The defending OVC Champion Murray State volleyball team competed in its first spring tournament Saturday at UT Martin. The Racers split the squad into two separate teams to compete at Martin.
Team One, which consisted of Kristen Besselsen, Olivia Chatman, Scottie Ingram, Alyssa Lelm, Ellie Lorenz, Taylor Olden and Hannah Stultz went 2-0 on the day with wins against Southern Illinois and UTM. The Racers defeated SIU 25-13 and 25-15 and won two sets against Martin 25-14 and 25-13.
Team Two for MSU, which consisted of Kaitlyn Embrey, Miranda Fowler, Courtney Huff, Kamille Jones, Stultz and Dacia Williams lost in three sets to the Skyhawks, 25-17, 16-25 and 14-16 and lost both sets to SIU 25-21.
Most matches played in the spring are a best 2-out-of-3, rather than a best of five series that is played during the season.
