Karaky Named OVC Freshman of the Year

Nancy Karaky headlined the 2015 All-Ohio Valley Conference Teams with her OVC Freshman of the Year Award. Andrea Eskauriatza was named to the first team, while Eleonore Tchakarova was named to the second team.

The OVC Freshman of the Year award has only been handed out since 2005, this marks the first time any Racer has nabbed the title. As the lone freshman on the team, Karaky has taken on the role of playing in mainly the third singles. She went 18-4 overall, and 7-2 during conference. She played four matches combined in the No. 1 and 2 positions and went 4-0.

This is the second year Eskauriatza has been named to the All-OVC First Team. She led the team with a 19-3 overall record and went 7-0 in conference play. Eskauriatza has only served in the No. 1 position as the sole senior on this veteran team.

This nomination serves as back-to-back All-OVC Second Team nominations for E. Tchakarova. She went 18-7 overall and went 5-2 against OVC opponents. She has seen play on courts one, two and three during singles, but mainly playing in the two spot. She was 9-3 in the No. 2 position. E. Tchakarova and her twin sister Verginie Tchakarova hold a 6-0 conference record in doubles play.

The Racers are set to take on either No. 4 seed SIU Edwardsville or No. 5 seed Eastern Illinois in the semifinal match Saturday at 10 a.m. Â
