Wednesday's Action
After winning its last five contests and eight of its last 10, Murray State steps away from conference action on Wednesday for a doubleheader with in-state rival Western Kentucky.
Last Time Out
Murray State swept both Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State on the weekend to extend its current win streak to five and move into a tie for third with Tennessee tech in the OVC standings. The Racer outscored their opponents 22-5 on the weekend, including not allowing a run in either game against Morehead State.
Alexa Becker turned in a .727 clip over the four-game stretch by going 8-for-11 with seven runs, three doubles, three RBIs, three walks, a stolen base and two home runs, including an inside-the-park round tripper. The MSU pitching staff turned in a weekend ERA of 1.35 on the weekend and allowed just three extra base hits over 26.0 innings of work. CheyAnne Gaskey was 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA and 15 strikeouts last weekend, while Mason Robinson was also 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 14 strikeouts.

Series History vs. WKU
The Racers and Lady Toppers have met in every season since MSU began softball in 2010 and WKU currently leads the series 5-1. The only win for Murray State in the series came in 2011 in Murray, when the Racers picked up a 7-0 victory. Last season, the two teams played in Murray with the Lady Toppers picking up the 3-2 extra-inning win. The two teams have met just twice in Bowling Green prior to Wednesday, with WKU winning both of those games.
Scouting The Lady Toppers
Western Kentucky enters Wednesday at 20-7 overall and received votes in the latest NFCA/USA Today Top 25 Poll. Last weekend, after 16 failed attempts due to weather, the Lady Toppers finally hosted their first home games of the season, taking two of three from Florida Atlantic. Home runs from Larissa Franklin and Lexie Norfleet proved to be the difference makers in the two wins, as the two long balls provided the game-winning and only offensive production in the first and third games, respectively.
As a team, WKU is currently hitting .286, while its pitching staff has posted a 2.24 team ERA and has limited opponents to a .211 average. Franklin leads the way for the Lady Toppers at the dish with a 4.18 average and a team-high nine stolen bases. In the circle, Miranda Kramer has served as WKU's ace and to-date has posted a 14-4 record with a 1.00 ERA, 235 strikeouts and a .144 opponents average. She currently leads the nation in shutouts at eight and strikeouts per seven innings at 13.8, second in total strikeouts, third in ERA and fourth in hits allowed per seven innings at 3.34.
Gaskey Honored
CheyAnne Gaskey went 3-0 on the week with two solo shutouts and an ERA of 0.82 to be named OVC Player of the Week. The senior struck out at least five batters in each game and fanned a season-high nine against EKU. She walked just six batters on the week to finish with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.33:1. Gaskey also allowed just two hits to go for extra bases on the week and hit just one batter.
Record Runs
With two runs in game one against EKU, Alexa Becker is now make the school's all-time leader in runs, currently with 133. She currently is also MSU's leader in all-time doubles, triples, home runs and RBIs.
Racer RPI
After going 5-0 last week, the Racers moved up 16 spots in the latest RPI from 123 to 107. Murray State is still the third-highest team in the OVC behind SIUE (41) and Jacksonville State (80).
Have Mercy
So far this season, MSU has won eight games via the eight-run rule, the most for any Kara Amundson coached team. The school record stands at nine in a season and was set in 2012.
Double Down
Murray State dropped to second nationally in double plays per game in the latest statistical rankings at 0.78 with 23 in 34 games. Utah Valley now leads at 0.75 per game with 30 in 40 games.
